The Fundación Infancia y Aprendizaje was officially constituted and began its activity in 1993, giving continuity to the scientific research and publishing line initiated by Aprendizaje and the Centro de Investigaciones para la Educación y el Desarrollo Humano (CIEDH), in 1976. Its activities include research, scientific information and publication, professional and academic training and teaching, conferences and seminars, support for scientific societies, and definition of the social role of psychology and the human sciences.

The main purpose of the FIA is "the development of the human sciences and their social commitment, the professions they generate and human activity in general, not only as the subject of study but also of intervention, support and design, promoting basic research on human change and the sociocultural changes that have occurred and continue to occur at general and specific levels, paying special attention to the understanding and explanation of these changes." (Chapter II of the Foundations Statutes)

The founders define the aspirations and activity of the Foundation in terms of:
	their belief in the role of science, and especially the human sciences in the positive transformation of society;
	their confidence in the historical role of scientists, professionals and cultures to transform social reality;
	their concern with human development (of the child, of society, of cultures);
	the search for a balance between the development of particular cultures and the needs for the globalization of science and culture;
	their confidence in the role of independent scientific institutions in maintaining stable lines of scientific and cultural development.

The Fundación Infancia y Aprendizaje (N.I.F. G80562713) is registered as a non-profit research foundation in the Spanish Ministry of Education, with the number: MAD-1-1-3-428.

It is a member of CEDRO (Spanish Centre of Reprographic Rights), of the Spanish Confederation of Foundations, and of the PILA (Publishers International Linking Association, Inc.).
